Microsoft continues to develop WinFS

Microsoft remains committed to developing the next generation of files and new storage systems - WinFS for Windows, though this process will take a long time.

At the launch of Windows Vista on November 30 in New York, Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer said the company had to trade many things before the promise of integrating WinFS for Vista. And even if WinFS is not available in existing Vista versions (newly provided to enterprise customers), Microsoft will continue to develop this system for future versions of Windows.
