Mona Lisa or Leonardo da Vinci?

Scientists hope the excavation of Leonardo da Vinci's remains will help them clarify whether the Mona Lisa painting is his self-portrait.

So far, the character in the Mona Lisa picture has many scientists arguing. Some scholars think that it is possible for the painter Leonardo da Vinci's painting. So, historians and scientists, from the National Committee on Cultural Heritage Itaila, proposed to excavate this genius artist's tomb at Amboise castle in Loire Valley (France) to do sheds light on the mysteries of the portrait of Mona Lisa.

Italian experts believe that if the head of Leonardo da Vinci's remains still exists, they can recreate his face and compare it to the face in the Mona Lisa painting. This group of scientists plans to discuss with French cultural experts and castle owners of Amboise about this excavation.

Dr. Giorgio Gruppioni, an anthropologist from the National Committee on Italian Cultural Heritage, said: 'If we find the skull of Leonardo da Vinci, we can reconstruct his face and time. We will clarify whether Mona Lisa is his self-portrait. '

The Italian team also said they would also assess whether the remains at the castle of Amboise were da Vinci because this was not his first burial place. To accomplish this, they will use carbon isotope methods and compare DNA taken from the remains with his descendants DNA in Bologna, Italy.
