Mont - World's largest tanker

Although it was no longer in operation, Mont was still holding the title of the world's largest ship.

Mont is also known by other names such as Knock Nevis, Jahre Viking, Happy Giant, Seawise Giant is the largest and longest crude oil tanker ever built.

It took 8.8 km of the new ship to completely stop, its turning radius was up to 3.2 km. The depth of the ship's underwater body when it was filled with oil was 24.6 meters, making it impossible to cross the English Channel, the Suez Canal and Panama.

The process of formation and operation:

In 1974, a Greek-based company ordered Sumitomo Group to build a 418,000-ton ship called Porthos. In 1979, the ship was completed and launched in Yokosuka, Kanagawa, Japan.

However, the ship revealed a multitude of problems during the trial that led to the Greek company refusing to accept the ship. The following error ship was acquired by a Hong Kong-based ocean carrier, which continued to require Sumitomo to increase the ship's tonnage by 156,000 tons. In 1981, the Seawise Giant, the new name of the ship, launched with a payload of 564,763 tons, a floor area of ​​31,541 tons.

From 1980–1988 the Iran-Iraq war broke out. On May 14, 1988, an Iraqi air raid caused the ship to be damaged and sunk off Iran.

Shortly after the end of the war, a multinational company acquired the body and proceeded to revive the world's largest ship. In 1991, the ship returned to the sea with the name Happy Giant.

In the same year, Loki Stream AS bought the ship for $ 39 million and changed its name to Jahre Viking.

In 2004, the ship was bought by First Olsen Tankers and built as a floating storage off the Persian Gulf. At this time the ship was named Knock Nevis.

In 2009, the ship continued to be sold to Amber Development Corporation and changed its name to Mont.

In 2010, the ship made its last voyage to India and stayed here forever. Its 36-ton anchor was taken to the Oceanographic Museum in Hong Kong for display.
