According to the report of the International Association for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) published on July 2, over the past five centuries, there have been more than 860 wild animal and plant species extinct. Nearly 17,000 other species are also facing the risk of disappearing from Earth.

Based on the data published in the IUCN Red Book of 2008, the report outlines the link between the financial crisis and environmental aspects, and predicts that the international community will fail to achieve. The goal is to support biodiversity in 2010 as committed by many governments in 2002.

"We don't want to choose between nature and economy, we just want to put nature in its place when we have to make decisions (economically)," said Jean-Christophe Vie, author of the newspaper. report, clearly stated.

The report said 869 plants and animals have been extinct or disappeared in the wild since 1500, while 290 other species are seriously threatened and may become extinct.

In addition, at least 16,928 species are threatened with extinction, including nearly one-third of amphibians, more than 1/8 of birds and nearly a quarter of mammals.

In 2004, IUCN's Red Book said 784 species were extinct since 1500. So after 5 years, there were 85 more species on Earth extinct.

The cause of extinct species is environmental destruction through farming, deforestation and urban development. Climate change is not the main threat, but has also caused changes in the habitat of the species.

According to Jean-Christophe Vie, his report is not a complete list because only 2.7% of about 1.8 million species have been studied and analyzed by IUCN.
