Mysterious carvings on stone

During excavation in Narigua, Coahuila state (Mexico), archaeologists discovered about 8,000 stone carvings, dating back over 6,000 years. They are distributed in areas with a radius of more than 3 km. The place with the most stone carvings (more than 500 pictures) is the mountainside.

Currently, experts are proceeding to determine the meaning of the carvings. The Daily Mail ' British daily newspaper said that some carvings look like fish, others - like the deer's palm marks left on rocks. Many carvings are richly decorated. One of the theories states that some stone carvings represent the stars. However, most of the carvings are wavy or concentric circles.

The author of the carvings is probably a representative of nomadic tribes, living mainly on hunter-gatherers. Excluding the possibility that their carvings are beginner and part of the ritual to receive new members into the hunter team. Experts say that specific analysis of the carvings will provide accurate information about the tribes and the type of tools they use.

Archaeologist Gerardo Rivas, one of the study participants, said that the discovery of the stone carvings is the next evidence that the Narigua region in the Stone Age was home to many tribes. Mr. Rivas also mentioned other items found in this area such as dishes, stoves and arrowheads used for hunting.

According to some experts, the latest finding can be considered a continuation of the previous discovery in the state of Tamaulipas with 5,000 drawings in caves.

Stone carvings are an important component of communication during the period of no writing. The carvings are often confused with the symbols pictogram, only painted (without engraving) on ​​the stone.
