Nano-electronics can detect the risk of stomach cancer

Early cancer of the stomach can be detected with a nano-electronic nose

This is the team's finding led by Professor Hossam Haick of the Israeli Institute of Technology, which develops nanotechnology, led and published in Gut magazine on April 13.

The researchers scanned the sample of 484 volunteers in Latvia, including 99 who were diagnosed with cancer but were not treated.

They use both nanoparticles and equipment designed by Israeli scientists using gold nanoparticles to detect unstable organic compounds (VOCs), which predict cancer status. .

Both devices accurately detect people with cancer as well as signs of lesions in the stomach that often develop into tumors.

The electronic nose gives the results of horizontal scans with VOCs , but is more complex and cost-effective, using gas chromatography and mass spectrometry.

Cancer specialists are very interested in VOC testing devices because the technology does not cause invasive endoscopic methods for the often-detectable disease, such as cancer and nasal congestion. Low cost of production, easy transportation, but still detect signs of cancer.

However, experts recommend that more tests be performed to prove the accuracy of the nose because the predicted rate is only 10 per billion breath samples or less. In particular, tests must be performed to determine whether suspicious signs actually develop into cancer in order to avoid unnecessary treatment.
