New discovery about relatives of tyrants
Scientists claim that the oldest fossil discovered in the 1900s has relatives of Tyrannosaurus rex carnivorous dinosaurs.
The fossil consists of a 30-centimeter skull skull discovered during excavation in the county of Gloucestershire, England and is now preserved at London's Natural History Museum.
A group of British and German scientists have found evidence that this fossil's association with the most famous dinosaur family. This dinosaur, called Proceratosaurus, lived 165 million years ago, around the middle of the Jurassic period. These carnivores, with two legs, can be about 3 meters long and weigh 50-60 kg.
The fossil skull part of the dinosaurs has a family name of T.rex.
Paleontologists used CT X-ray technology to create 3D images of fossil skulls to study the internal structure with the most detailed details.
Dr. Angela Milner, who manages the biological part at the Museum, said: 'This is the only specimen in the world. Surprisingly, the analysis shows that we have the oldest fossil with relatives of T.rex. The fossil parts discovered a century ago can now be made more in-depth, with the aim of bringing insights into the dinosaurs. '
Rhino dinosaurs live in the Cretaceous period, also known as Cretaceous.
Dr. Milner adds that, despite the size difference between Proceratosaurus and T.rex, both species still have many things in common.'If you look carefully, you can see that Proceratosaurus has a large skull due to the development of the jaw muscles. Both Proceratosaurus and T.rex have the same tooth structure, both small and banana-like. In Proceratosaurus' brains with lots of space and so does T.rex, ' said Dr. Milner.
First mentioned in 1910 as a relative of the dinosaur Megalosaurus, another carnivorous dinosaur known as the "great lizard", the fossil was taken to the Museum in 1942.
Tyrannosaurus rex, often referred to as T.rex or tyrant dinosaur, is a live carnivorous dinosaur in the late Cretaceous era, following the Jurassic period. T.rex is 16 meters long, 6 meters high and weighs 7 tons. The jaw is bristled with 15 cm long teeth, it can run at a speed of 50 km per hour but only for a short distance. Since the front limbs are small and weak, it may not be an animal capable of fighting. Many scientists believe that it is possible that T.rex only hunts old weak dinosaurs or scavengers.
