Nghe An expanded to raise biological safety chickens

To help farmers develop animal husbandry in the direction of urban agriculture, overcome pollution, the Center for Rural Agriculture Support, under the Central Association of Vietnam Farmers in collaboration with Nam Dan District People's Committee (Nghe An) , deploying the model of biosafety poultry farming according to VietGap process in the two communes of Nam Thuong and Nam Thanh.

The model was implemented in 9 livestock households in 2 communes of Nam Thanh and Nam Thuong (Nam Dan district), with more than 4,000 clean chickens. Before the implementation of the model, the authorities of the two communes conducting the selection of households participating in the project must meet the requirements such as breeding facilities, grazing gardens, conditions, ability to care, nurture and commit to implement those regulations. The project supports 100% of seed prices, 30% of feed prices, vaccines and antiseptic chemicals.

The breeds of poultry brought into farming are Luong Phuong chicken and Luong Phuong Sasso hybrid to ensure quality and safety of diseases. Households participating in the model were trained and visited, learning about biosafety breeding experience in some localities in and outside the province.

In addition, during the implementation process, the technical staff of the project also regularly monitor and guide technical procedures for care, nurturing and prevention of diseases in accordance with regulations. Thus, poultry flocks grow and develop well, the survival rate is 98%, during the period from 2.5 to 3 months of age, the weight of hens reaches from 1.8 to 2.0kg / head; roosters from 2.2 - 2.5kg / head.

Mr. Nguyen Huu Tinh, hamlet 3, Nam Thuong commune, adopted over 900 breeding chickens, due to compliance with the rules such as cleaning cages, taking care and regularly watching the temperature of breeding facilities . so the chickens grow Well developed, no epidemics occur. However, the biosafety process of raising chickens in the direction of VietGap requires stricter than traditional chicken raising methods. Thanks to that, his family has collected nearly 2 tons of chickens, with a turnover of over VND 100 million.

The above results show that the model of bio-safe poultry farming implemented in Nam Thuong and Nam Thanh communes not only brings high economic efficiency but also creates conditions for farmers to remove old husbandry practices. There are many potential risks of disease outbreaks, creating more opportunities to escape poverty for farmers. The replication of livestock models in the direction of safe application of the above VietGap process should be further replicated in the coming years.
