Overview of the Vietnam Military History Museum

With its "huge" scale and thousands of valuable artifacts, the Vietnam Military History Museum immediately attracted the attention of many people, especially young people, on November 1, 2024, officially opening to welcome and serve visitors.

A typical special cultural work with 4 floors above ground and 1 basement, the Museum has a construction area of ​​23,198m2 , the total floor area of ​​the main building is 64,640m2 . In front of the building is the 45m high Victory Tower with a five-pointed star stacked in many layers, symbolizing the year 1945, when the Vietnamese people gained independence.

The formation process of the Vietnam History Museum

Established on July 17, 1956, the Vietnam Military History Museum (LSQSVN) was originally called the Army Museum with the main task of researching and collecting documents, artifacts, and historical relics remaining of the Vietnam Army. Recording the history of our nation's resistance under the direct leadership of the Vietnam Army and the Party under the direction of President Ho Chi Minh.

Uncle Ho affirmed that: 'The military museum is a living history book that has a great influence on education. This will be an exhibition that teaches good traditions to the Vietnamese people, especially the young generation. At the same time, it will be a guide to help foreign visitors understand Vietnam as well as the just struggle of our people. Therefore, the military museum must create the best conditions for visitors'.

Vietnam Military History Museum Space - A diverse cultural treasure

The indoor exhibition is divided into 3 main areas: S2, S3, S4 with the main content including: Vietnam's military history during the Hung King period; An Duong Vuong before 1930; Vietnam People's Armed Forces from 1930 to 1975; the heroic August Revolution of 1975; Dien Bien Phu campaign - Ho Chi Minh campaign (1953-1954); summary of the work of building and defending the Fatherland from 1975 to present.

Next is the outdoor exhibition of the Museum, consisting of 2 areas with artifacts such as American aircraft wrecks; tanks; cannons; artillery guns;. With the highlight being 4 national treasures including 2 MiG-21 aircraft with serial numbers 5121 and 4324; the T-54B tank with serial number 843 and especially the historical map of our army 'Ho Chi Minh Campaign'. All are original specimens clearly showing the will, determination to fight and win, and not giving up of the army and people of the whole country.

The National Treasures exhibition area with the MiG-21 aircraft numbered 5121 and air defense systems that contributed to the "Dien Bien Phu in the air" victory of our army and people in December 1972 attracted a lot of visitors.

The new museum will open in November 2024, located at Km 6+500 Thang Long Avenue, Tay Mo Ward, Dai Mo, Nam Tu Liem District, Hanoi. Previously, the old museum was located at 28A Dien Bien Phu Street, Dien Bien Ward, Ba Dinh District, opposite Lenin Park.

The newly built museum has a modern, multi-functional design. The museum's architecture is not only a work displaying war history, but also creates a common space for visitors to interact and experience the struggle for national independence of the heroic Vietnam People's Army.

In addition, the museum applies many new display methods , combined with 3D mapping technology; information lookup screen devices, photo media, automatic audioguide explanations and QR codes to look up information about artifacts, images and more than 60 video clips introducing campaigns, battles and historical figures, giving visitors a completely new experience.

Currently, the museum has completed phase 1, and the unit is receiving comments from experts and scientists, editing and perfecting the display before officially opening to the public on November 1, 2024.
