The pair of raccoons mentioned above were part of an effort to boost diplomatic relations between Scotland and China when Beijing lent Edinburgh two bears for 10 years.

However, with the panda only 'ovulating' twice a year, animal experts urged Edinburgh zoo management to facilitate Yang Guang and Tian Tian to be together.

For many reasons, pandas now face many difficulties when spawning naturally. Therefore, in many parts of the world, experts have tried many ways to stimulate the fertility of pandas.

According to Edinburgh Zoo Research Director, they have gained good experience after this experiment and both pandas are still full of 'energy' for the next try.
