The bird is said to be a giant pelican.

Head of research Klaus Honninger said the fossil is over 2m tall with the skin almost intact.

Mr. Honninger said this was a particularly valuable discovery because there was no similar fossil creature previously discovered in the world.

According to the study of the scientific group, this giant pelagic fossil was identified in the Oligocene period of the Paleogene period, dating from 40 million to 23 million years ago. During this time, many species were extinct.

The excavation was carried out on March 6 in the Ica desert area, where many fossils of whales, sharks and penguins are concentrated.
