According to authorities, people in the town of Marilao fled their homes before morning, and many people blocked their noses with handkerchiefs, dizziness and vomiting due to the smell from the waste. There are 16 children and 15 adults hospitalized while 1,000 people have to evacuate to a school.

3,000 people in the village of Santa Rosa Uno near the Marilao river must also flee the house. Many newborn babies and toddlers have been taken to a nearby hospital. Mothers said their children had difficulty breathing and some children were vomiting.

Carlos Clemente, a Marilao resident, told the ABS-CBN television channel that he saw a truck dumping some liquid into a creek near the Marilao River. Truck drivers and two drivers were later arrested in the town of Santa Maria. At the police station, they claimed to carry the chemical waste from a plastic factory and dumped it on Marilao. According to Lalaine Amparo police inspector, these three people and the owner of the vehicle will be charged with violating the law on hazardous waste.
