For the past 4 years, Canadian-born photographer Gaston Lacombe has come to record images of captive animals in zoos around the world. The obsession with sadness in the photos has blown long controversy about animal conservation.
With the project "Detained" , Mr. Lacombe visited the zoo in 9 countries on 5 continents and what he found popular was that boredom appeared on the faces of every animal that lived behind but Iron.
The photographer emphasized: "Even in the best conditions of the zoo, you still see animals confined in scary concrete or small cages."
Mr. Lacombe wants people to review the whole idea of the zoo. He did not think they should be removed, but wanted more investment to think about how to care for animals in captivity.
