The spokesman of the center, Anna Uryga, said the face transplant patient, young male Grzegorz, 33, was cut off by a stone cutter " almost " from the face on April 23 while working.

Doctors tried to reconnect the cut face to the victim but failed, only able to maintain the sight and partial face of the victim. The victim's life is threatened by a wide and deep wound.

Two weeks later, the doctors were lucky enough to find a young man in his 30s who volunteered to donate his face. With the consent of the face-cut patients and his family, the doctors performed facial grafting for patients during the 17-hour surgery on May 15 last.

Currently, patients are still in critical condition due to prolonged surgery, but are able to breathe and communicate with their heads and hands. Doctors said the patient would eat, breathe, and look, but it took another eight months to fully restore the motor on the face.

In 2005, French doctors performed the first face transplant in the world, giving a 38-year-old woman a part of her face. Since then, there have been 20 other transplants worldwide, including Belgium, Spain, Turkey and the United States.
