According to the Journal of Biomedical Materials Research, Russian scientists have developed new implants to replace and repair tendons and ligaments. They are based on poly-3-hydroxybutyrate and reinforced polyamide materials . The combination of these components allows to achieve the structural, durability and biocompatibility characteristics necessary for the favorable growth and regeneration of cells.

Scientists tested 10 mice by completely eliminating the calf muscles with the heel: in the right leg of the mouse, the experimental material was implanted instead of the tendon, and in the left leg, the surgical fibers The art was transplanted to control. After 5 weeks, the scientists found that in the right leg of the mouse, the implant replaced the new connective tissue, very similar to the original tendon, while the actual control samples of the surgical fibers could not be replaced Both in shape and density.

Professor Vladimir Semenovich Akatov commented that it is extremely important that implant materials in addition to performing the function of the injured connective tissue can also contribute to regeneration. The results show the prospect of using this kind of implant for reconstructive surgery.
