Ria Novosti, a news source from the Astronomical Bureau of the International Astronomical Union, said Russian astronomers for the first time in 20 years have discovered a new broom star. The star was named C / 2010 X1 (Elenin) because it was found on December 10 by Leonid Elenin of the Institute of Applied Mathematics named Keldysh.
The ISON-NM Observatory is located in the state of New Mexico, USA but is remote controlled by Russian scientists. On December 11, on the website of the observatory ISON-NM, there was a notice about the detection of 'objects' that are most likely to be Comets. That same day, the new discovery was confirmed by Russian and Ukrainian astronomers currently working at the Maidanak observatory in Uzbekistan. Later, US and Japanese colleagues also confirmed the information.

At this point, the exact parameters of the Broom star's activity have not been clearly defined. From the existing data, astronomers made preliminary conclusions that the orbital point of the Comet (near-Japanese point) lies at a distance of 4 astronomical units near the solar system (a similar astronomical unit equivalent distance from Earth to the Sun.
Comet was previously discovered by Russian astronomers (exactly Soviet astronomers) in 1990. Russian astronomers collaborated with Japanese colleagues to find out how the broom was called. is C / 1990 E1 (Chernis-Kiuchi-Nakamura).

Recently, NASA astronomers have published the clearest images of the Comet Hartley 2 after the Deep Impact probe approached the Comet at a distance of 700 km on November 4. The scientists said this was not the first time NASA's Deep Impact probe approached a Comet at such a close distance. In 2005, the probe surprised the world as well and captured clear images of the Star Tempel 1.
