Self-healing light, self cleaning
Instead of having to carry a suit of clothes when traveling, it is possible that in the future, you will only need to carry a few, even a set of clothes made of special material, allow ... self clean.
Hoping to improve people's lives in the future, in Portugal, scientists from the Center for Nanotechnology and Materials Intelligence (CENTI) have researched a potential material. Self sufficient to make clothes and products made of light fabric. With this material, your curtains can completely ... glow. The secret lies in flexible photovoltaic panels that can generate electricity used to light LEDs on the inside.
According to Joan Gomes, lead researcher, the principle of this material is to absorb the sun during the day and to light or power the equipment at home at night. What you need is: 'There is an object that is exposed to the sun, like carpet or curtains . '
According to Gomes, the material can be used to make clothing and, thanks to the buildup of electricity, you can charge your phone anywhere thanks to what you are wearing. In addition, CENTI centers are researching self-cleaning fiber fabrics and hope to incorporate these technologies together.
'Imagine you do not have to do your laundry regularly, and you can travel with a simple self-cleaning kit. I really think all these new ideas can enhance people's lives in the years to come, ' said Antonio Viera, CEO of CENTI.
The CENTI study is part of a joint European Commission project. If this project is successful, it will not only bring commercial value but also high practicality in life.
