Sleeping immediately after eating easily causes heartburn

People who go to bed within 3 hours after eating are at risk of heartburn 7.45 times higher than those who wait for at least 4 hours, said Dr. Yasuhiro Fujiwara, Osaka City University (Japan). .
Fujiwara and colleagues investigated the time period from dinner to bedtime in 147 patients with GERD and more than 200 people without symptoms of heartburn within a year. The results showed that going to bed immediately after eating significantly increased the risk of GERD. Based on this survey, the Fujiwara team will find out whether fasting for at least 3 hours before bedtime reduces or improves acid reflux symptoms.
