Socialization of rice varieties

CBDC-BUCAP Project (2006-2009) has an operational network including units: Can Tho University, An Giang University, Tra Vinh University, Southern Cultivation Department, 7 Breeding Centers and 6 Agricultural Extension Centers in 13 provinces and cities in the Mekong Delta. From the summer-autumn crop of 2006 up to now, Mekong Delta farmers, especially the communities under the project network, have increasingly participated in biodiversity conservation, use and development.

By the winter-spring season 2006-2007, the Mekong Delta Development Research Institute (BTA) coordinated the provinces in the region to organize 29 classes on the field to train production skills, select community breeding for 670 farmers, The purpose is to contribute to meeting the requirements of localization of local rice varieties. From these classes, 29 communities within the project network were established, bringing the total to 68 communities. As planned, 21 other classes will be and continue to be held in this summer.

At the meeting on April 4, 2007, at the Institute of Sustainable Development, Master Nguyen Hong Cuc, a member of the Plant Resources Group, said: With nearly 220 hybrid lines, 70 promising seed varieties are provided by agencies. Local linkage, in both cases, farmers have implemented 41 pilot sites to select suitable varieties, and from 20 pilot sites of winter-spring season 2006-2007, farmers have selected 57 rice lines adapted to the locality. .

In this summer season, farmers are also breeding rice varieties from 30 hybrid combinations, while selecting dissociation lines from 50 promising lines. In particular, 30 students of An Giang University and Tra Vinh University, in addition to being popularized about class activities in the field, were also able to attend classes directly (16 students); 120 other students are expected to listen to a thematic report on community biodiversity conservation, use and development. Particularly, a student from Can Tho University has carried out a graduation thesis on this issue.

These are some outstanding activities in Objective 1 of CBDC-BUCAP project in the Mekong Delta. Regarding objective 2, Dr. Vu Anh Phap, Head of Crop Resources Group of the BTA, excitedly " announced ": Winter-spring crop 2006-2007, at 5 points: Tan An town, Long An; Go Cong Tay, Tien Giang; Tra On, Vinh Long; Chau Thanh, Tra Vinh and Co Do, Can Tho City, tested 9 farmer-selected rice lines successfully from the previous 2 periods of CBDC project, showing: TM3 adapted in Tra Vinh; Activity 1, BT1 adapted in Long An; TH1 in Tien Giang; BL28 in Vinh Long; BL5 in Can Tho City. Through the French doctorate, I could not help but remember the time to go and evaluate the rice variety in An Giang with the staff of the BTA in the winter-spring crop 2006-2007. It was unexpected and pleasurable to see the ' standing ' activity in An Giang with the area of thousands of hectares trusted by relatives.

Dr. Vu Anh Phap added that it was also in the winter-spring crop of 2006-2007, through national tests at 6 points: Binh Thuan; Long An; O Mon, Co Do (Can Tho City); An Giang, Kien Giang, results: Activity 1 (created by Mr. Nguyen Van Tinh, in My Lam, Hon Dat, Kien Giang) has the ability to develop due to its quite and stable productivity; beautiful long beads; resistance to brown backed rice plant hoppers and rice grass dwarfs. TM3 (Mr. Duong Van Chau, in Thanh My, Chau Thanh, Tra Vinh is the author) with average productivity; beautiful long beads; low rate of belly rice; slightly infected with leaf blight and severe damage to grass dwarf grass.

Like the affiliated agencies throughout the Mekong Delta provinces, in the two winter-spring seasons of 2006-2007 and the summer of 2007, the SDA provided 75 dissociation lines (from F2 to F7) to 11 communities in Tien Giang provinces. , Vinh Long, Tra Vinh, Soc Trang and Bac Lieu. From the combinations selected and bred by her relatives, hundreds of rice lines with short growth time, average height, big cotton, long seeds, have the ability to resist brown backed rice plant hoppers . used for the next case.

In addition, from the promising varieties provided by the Institute of Sustainable Development, communities tested and selected rice varieties: MTL460, MTL463, and MTL497. Also in the past winter-spring crop, 11 communities in 7 provinces: Tien Giang, Vinh Long, Tra Vinh, Dong Thap, An Giang, Kien Giang and Bac Lieu were provided with the first two varieties of rice varieties resistant to the BPL promising. and Council 1, each type is 220kg. From that initial variety, farmers produced 132 tons of MTL384; Particularly, the first Council was 1,999 tons (because farmers exchanged additional seed sources themselves). Along with other rice varieties produced from communities, the amount of rice produced is about 8,000 tons, enough to meet the demand for seed for an area of 61,000 ha .

There are many issues discussed at the meeting on 4-6-2007 for the work plan of CBDC-BUCAP project from now to the end of the year. In it, the most exciting, ' consuming ' time, and most interesting is the issue of naming rice varieties that farmers choose to create, and ' Should all the rice varieties of the community be taken to national testing? '. Almost all delegates of Seed Centers, Agricultural Extension Center, Department of Agriculture and Rural Development in 13 provinces, cities, Coordination Board of Mekong Delta project of CBDC-BUCAP, National Project Management Board . are Present at the meeting, all agreed: Except for outstanding rice varieties that can be taken to national level, local authorities should test and recognize provincial rice varieties to promptly put into production. ; and the province will name the rice variety according to the local name for easy management .
