Software makes the phone 'reactive'
The mobile phone could become a spy data collection machine if users install a software designed by US military scientists.
The mobile phone could become a spy data collection machine if users install a software designed by US military scientists.
PlaceRaider is a software capable of creating 3D maps of the space around mobile phones, whereby spies can break into houses and other types of buildings. It was the invention of US Navy and Indiana University scientists in the United States. If you find 'PlaceRaider' online, people will only know it is an application for your phone's camera, so there will be no doubt, Tech News Daily reported.
After "intruding" into the smartphone, the PlaceRaider software will order the camera
The phone's camera captures user surroundings to make three-dimensional mapping.
The software will secretly order the phone's camera to take pictures or record videos, and collect directional data from the accelerometer on the phone. PlaceRaider then sends data to a computer that combines the highest-definition images into a three-dimensional virtual map of the home or office of the phone user. The computer will automatically type dark or blurry images.
Spy can enlarge sensitive information in the room, such as financial statements, phone numbers, personal checks or work schedule on the wall calendar. 3D maps allow users to easily enter the house if they want to enter.
The team thinks that their software is not only a useful tool for spying, but can also help effectively for special forces, police and case investigators. However, some people who fear 'PlaceRaider' will cause great harm to society if thieves or bad objects use it.
