Solar powered ship
On May 8, the Swiss ship Sun21 completed its first solar-powered journey across the Atlantic.
Departing from the Port of Chipiona, Spain, the Sun21 has undergone a 6-month journey, passing 13,000 km long, passing Martinique Island in the Caribbean Bay, then running along the East Coast of the United States first. at the end of the journey at the port of North Cove Marina, New York City, USA.
The Trans-Atlantic Company 21, the Sun21 ship management unit, said that during the voyage, the ship has produced 2,000 kW of solar power thanks to photovoltaic panels installed on the roof of the ship. This energy source is used to supply power to train engines. The remainder is loaded into a spare battery, whereby the ship maintains a constant speed of about 10-12km / hour.
Captain Michael Thonney said the Sun21's voyage of transatlantic flight ended well. This shows that people can travel around the world with inexpensive and environmentally safe ships.
