The Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs of Korea on the same day announced the test results of detection of avian influenza antibodies in 11 dogs raised on two separate farms in Cheonan City and Buyeo County in South Chungcheong Province, about 80km south of Seoul capital.

The ministry also said that this year, Thailand has found cases of dogs eating naturally dead ducks and then dying of infection with bird flu. However, this is the first time dogs have been infected with avian influenza virus without symptoms of illness and still living normally.

Earlier, on March 11, the South Korean government announced that it had found a dog raised in another chicken farm in Cheonan city infected with avian influenza virus and conducted tests on the dog. .

Since the discovery of the first bird flu outbreak on a duck farm on January 16, the Korean authorities have now destroyed more than 11 million poultry, mainly chicken-ducks.

The agency also examined samples taken from 28 pigs and dogs, and tested 18 other suspected cases of bird flu.
