Space yogurt is available in Japan

The bacterium-tested yogurt in the universe was born in Japan, promising to bring a better flavor and enhance human immunity.

Picture 1 of Space yogurt is available in Japan Himawari Dairy, a Japanese dairy producer, has placed a seat on the Soyuz rocket taking off from Baikonur space airport earlier this year. Passengers are two strains of bacteria: lactic acid bacteria used in ordinary yogurt and a special strain of Lactobacillus paracasei cultured from sludge of sake, is said to increase human immunity.

Radiations in the universe are still known to affect bacteria."Lactic acid bacteria are very sensitive, so we'd love to see what happens," said Himawari chairman Bunjiro Yoshizawa. "It would be good if the journey in the universe adds flavor to yogurt and enhances its immunity."

After 10 days of traveling in harsh missile environments, the specimens were brought back to study. Yoshizawa said about half of the bacteria died in the solvent due to harsh living conditions. The surviving healthy bacteria are put into use and give yogurt a completely new flavor compared to the usual type of ground bacteria.

In Japan, this yogurt is called Uchu O Tabi Shita Yogurt (meaning yogurt used to travel the universe) and costs $ 1 per box of 90 grams.
