Axiom Mission 1 will study meat production in a zero-gravity environment.

According to Sputnik, billionaire Elon Musk's corporation is planning to launch an experiment on artificial meat outside of Earth. The crew of Axiom Mission 1 will be sent to the ISS, partnering with Israeli farm-raised meat startup Aleph Farms to create artificial steaks.

The crew of the Israel Defense Forces will bring a special device to the ISS, plug it into a power supply so that researchers on Earth can control it.

'Aleph Farms is developing a technology platform to produce beef steak from a small amount of available resources. Understanding how this process works in low-gravity conditions will help perfect a process for producing farmed meat, for long-term space missions, and build an efficient production process to minimize the impact on the environment,' an Aleph spokesperson said.

According to scientists, the experiment also sets the stage for future studies on the ability to provide meat for astronauts and how to produce enough food and food for long-term missions.
