Spider jumps and secretes

Phidippus regius is a species of spider in the family Salticidae, living mainly in North America, commonly known as the jumping spider because of its ability to fold its body length six times.

Normally humans can only jump 1.5 times their body but jumping spiders can zoom 6 times their size. Do they have any secret?

"Family" jumping spiders often do not sit and wait for the prey to lead the body to the body. In contrast, they hunt aggressively and are a dangerous assassin with bright eyes and terrible "disdain" ability.

With jumping spiders, spider webs are just a refuge when hunting on or laying eggs when the breeding season arrives.

According to the BBC, the research team from Manchester University, he was surprised to learn the secret behind the "divine" jumps of this spider.

They train 4 spiders that can dance according to the command. The jumps are usually between points of different heights, which can be accompanied by obstacles depending on the challenge of the team.

The group uses many high-tech camcorders to record the details of the jumping spider's activity. At the same time, they took a CT scan of the spider's body, which focused on clarifying the legs structure to see if there was anything special.

As a result, they found that this spider has a very fast and precise jumping technique, but it uses very little energy. That's because spiders always calculate the exact angle, trajectory and jumping force required for each execution.

"First, spiders must observe very quickly and choose an optimal jumping angle," said Dr. Mostafa Nabawy from Manchester University, who led the study.

With short range, spiders like to perform faster and lower jumps. Although the low jump angle can lose more energy, it will be more accurate and reduce the time to subdue the prey.

With long range and many obstacles, the spider will choose higher flying angle and at a slower speed.

According to Popular Science, one of the species ' "treasures" is extremely good vision with four large eyes in front and four smaller eyes on the top of the head.

From there, spiders can accurately and quickly calculate the time and angle needed to perform each different jump.

Russell Garwood, a paleontologist from Manchester University and a member of the research team, said one of the purposes of this study is to find out if jumping spiders incorporate leg and hydraulic forces. Is the blood flow in the body to produce divine jumps?

Garwood thinks there is not enough evidence to prove it. Leg muscles are still the main force that spiders use. This force is very strong, maybe 5 times the weight of the spider, helping the spider to " catch " the prey.

According to the team, understanding this spider could help scientists create a new generation of robots that work better with newer capabilities.
