A British photographer took a picture of a squid that used jet propulsion to break out of the sea and fly at an altitude of about 20 meters, according to the Daily Mail.
Mr. Graham Ekins, a retired vice principal at Boreham, in Essex County (England), took the photos above about 1,000 km from Ogasawara Islands, southern Japan.
Photograph of flying squid captured by Mr. Graham Ekins.
At first, he thought that the flying animals were flying fish, but when he realized they were squid, he did not miss the opportunity to show off.
The photographs showed the blue animals about 20cm long, called Latin Todarodes pacifius in Latin, flying in the air after launching from the sea to avoid predators.
According to Mr. Ekins, waves from the bow made the squid believe that they were hunted and their self-defense instincts were to jump out of the water.
' The squid escaped from the water about 20 meters, much less than flying fish, and used jet propulsion. They fly and look behind, with swaying tentacles and their fins acting as balance sets , 'Mr. Ekins said.
This retired old man saw with his own eyes about 20 squid flying in that memorable trip.
