This strange cause of snow color formation is thought to be due to emissions from the TPP-5 thermal power plant . This factory operates with maximum capacity throughout the coldest periods of the year. The pollutant emissions are generated from the overloading of condensed plants and falling along with white snow.
This was not the first time black snow appeared in Omsk city. This phenomenon was recorded twice here in 2012.

According to state statistics, Omsk ranks 8th in the list of the most heavily polluted air cities in Russia.
In August last year, the western city of Siberia was once covered by a layer of white powder identified as aluminosilicate dust from the Gazpromneft refinery. Experts then said that the dust does not affect people living in the area.
In 2007, city residents witnessed the emergence of yellow snow born from dust storms.
