Depending on the time of day, the season as well as the amount of cloud cover, the water in Hutt Lagoon will be pink, red, orange.
Hutt Lagoon is a beautiful pink lake located in Port Gregory, Western Australia
This is a saltwater lake, separated from the Indian Ocean by a system of ledges and sand dunes that act as a barrier.
The lake is 14km long and 2km . wide
The lake is often called Pink Lake because the water here is not as green as other lakes but always has a unique pink color
More interesting is that depending on the time of day, the season as well as the amount of cloud cover, the water in Hutt Lagoon will have different pink colors, sometimes looking like turning red, orange.
Scientists say the lake's pink color comes from an algae called Dunaliella salina, which produces ß-carotene, a colorant and source of vitamin A.
Hundreds of hectares of the lake are now cultivated with algae for commercial ß-carotene extraction.
Because of this uniqueness, the lake attracts many tourists from all over the world, including photographer Kristina Makeeva from Russia.
"I dreamed of the pink lake a long time ago, it turned out to be even more beautiful than the dream. The lakes sometimes have different shades of red, pink and sometimes yellow and blue. Pink salt on the shore sparkles like snow, looks like abstract paintings in reality. In this case, nature and its colors did wonders," shared Russian photographer Kristina Makeeva.
"The lake water is not only pink but sometimes turns red, yellow, even blue, and the pink salt on the shore is sparkling like snow, all like a real abstract painting," she shared on Boredpanda.
It has the world's largest microalgae factory, a space of about 250 hectares to grow algae for commercial extraction of ß-carotene. The unique lake attracts a lot of tourists from all over the world. The lake's water turns its most vivid color when the sky is clear and the sun is high. Visitors are advised to visit between 10am and 2pm.
The color of the lake is also determined by the amount of algae in bloom at the time. According to scientists, algae reproduce more when the water is saltier.
