Stunned by pure gold linga found by Vietnamese archaeologists

Dr. Bui Chi Hoang said that linga was excavated in Cat Tien (Lam Dong) entirely in gold. Linga is on display in the Vietnam Archeological Archeology exhibition.

Prof. Dr. Bui Chi Hoang (Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences) could not forget the moment he found linga gold at Cat Tien relic site (Lam Dong). At that time, he was digging an architecture at a depth of 3m, and there he found this golden linga. 'It is pure gold, not gold plating,' said Hoang.

Also according to Mr. Hoang, currently only digging linga gold in Cat Tien. This artifact is displayed at the Vietnam Archaeological Museum, held at Hanoi National Museum of History from April 12 to the end of July.

Also according to Mr. Bui Chi Hoang, in this exhibition, there are other valuable gold objects, such as gold leaves. It is often used in rituals of Hinduism, before starting to build temple towers. The gold leaves can have elephant, snake, lotus-shaped shapes and also Sanscrit letters.

Associate Professor, Dr. Pham Quoc Quan, former Director of the Vietnam Museum of History, said that the exhibits displayed at this exhibition show the techniques of the ancient people. For example, glass technology of Sa Huynh culture is honored through glass beads found in Khanh Hoa, . Dong Son culture is introduced through artifacts such as bracelets, string beads, earrings. Stone material of the culture of Phung Nguyen and Dong Dau. The exhibition also displayed various types of bronze drums such as Sao Vang and Truong Thinh drums . Chau Can tomb and Co Loa arrow arrow were also displayed this time .

In addition, the exhibition also exhibits precious architectural objects such as dragon heads, phoenix heads, and tile used in the royal palace .

According to Mr. Hoang, to get this exhibition, artifacts have to be collected from many museums and exhibitions in the country. For example, Mukhalinga was borrowed from My Son, or the Hoang Thanh Thang Long artifact was lent by Hanoi. Many exhibits in the exhibition deserve to be a national treasure.

What is Linga?

Linga (Sanskrit: लिङ्गं liṅgaṃ, meaning "sign" ) is a symbol of worship of the Hindu god Shiva. Although its origin has not been determined, this worship symbol in India has been used at least since the early period of the Indian River valley civilization. This is one of the two sacred objects of worship (along with yoni) of Hinduism.
