A flooded ancient Egyptian tomb surprised archaeologists, after they drew water and discovered large, intact artifacts covered in thick mud.

The tomb was revealed in a documentary on Channel 5 (UK), hosted by Tony Robinson, called Egyptian Tombs.

Mr. Robinson went to Gebel el-Silsila in Egypt to meet archaeologist John Ward, who discovered the entrance to a mysterious room.

The entrance Mr. Ward found was filled with cloudy water, so Robinson helped him pump out the water so that he could get inside.

Then they crawled through thick mud to a large burial chamber. Mr. Robinson called it "human soup".

"It's creepy to think of so many people buried here, and at least some of them have a bit of a role."

He added: "All their remains are mixed in the water below our knees, like a human soup."

"This burial chamber was carefully carved, this doorway has been beautifully made."

The two experts began to unearth and make an unusual discovery. Continuing to pump out water, they discovered a giant pottery in the corner of one of the rooms.

"In all my years of searching for pottery, I've never found anything like this, it's like a giant whale," Mr. Robinson said .

Mr Ward added: "It may have contained food buried with the dead."

The discovery was so unusual that experts claimed that "had never found anything like it" before.

"What I like is that it's really intact, it's beautiful."

Ancient Egypt was an advanced civilization that once possessed vast territories. This civilization began about 5,000 years ago along the Nile, and lasted for 3,000 years. That era saw the construction of sophisticated cities and famous pyramids.

The ancient Egyptians were experts in construction and agriculture. They invented a calendar based on the Sun and hieroglyphs, one of the world's first writing systems.

Egyptian kings and queens are called 'pharaohs' , who built elaborate tombs, once the largest buildings in the world.

They have about 2,000 gods. The Egyptians believed in life after death, and the bodies of important figures were mummified for 'afterlife'.

Their empire collapsed for many reasons, including war with other empires and a 100-year famine.
