Sweat men excited women

A new study at the University of California Berkeley, USA, found a chemical in men 's sweat that could increase women's hormone cortisol levels, related to sexual excitement.

The study provided the first evidence that humans, like rats and some insects, released smells that could affect the physiological mind of the opposite sex.

A previous study also found that androstadienone in men sweat can change mood, stimulate sexual excitement, promote physiological function and activate the brain in women.

(Photo: Xinhuanet.com) In the new study, Claire Wyart and colleagues gave 21 participants exposure to 30 mg of androstadienone and a yeast with a similar smell. Participants smelled 20 times each. Meanwhile, the researchers measured physiological signals such as body temperature, conductivity of the skin, beats in the ears, blood pressure, heart rate and respiratory function. They also examined sexual stimulation and mood by measuring cortisol hormone levels, related to mood and excitement, in saliva samples.

The results showed that, compared to the smell of yeast, women with androstadienone smelling were stimulated in mood and sexual excitement, and blood pressure, heart rate and breathing also increased.

In addition, the study found that cortisol levels increased within 15 minutes after androstadienone smelling and maintained euphoria for more than 1 hour.
