Two Yale and Columbia University environmental research centers conducted the annual report called The Environmental Performance Index (EPI), surveying 132 countries. They use satellite data to measure pollution levels and thereby calculate how "dirty" levels affect human health.

EPI ranks countries based on the assessment of the implementation of environmental-health-related policies and ecosystem quality. These indicators are one of the measures at the national level, whether each country has approached its environmental goals.
The research results are published by each country (country profile), including many indicators such as air quality, water, environmental impacts on health, agriculture, climate change, forests .
Regarding the impact of air quality, Vietnam ranked 123nd in the ranking of 132 countries surveyed.
Regarding the impact of the environment on health, Vietnam ranked 77. Regarding the quality of Vietnam water is ranked 80. According to the EPI overall index, Vietnam ranked 79th.
Professor Pham Ngoc Dang, Chairman of Vietnam Construction Environment Association said that the air environment of most areas in the city is polluted with dust, especially at intersections and areas with construction site and industrial production focus place.
Experts say that polluted air, especially small particles in the air, will seriously affect human health. Dirty air and small particles pose a risk of respiratory disease and lung disease. Small particles can overcome barriers such as masks, mucus in the nose, mouth to enter and lie in the lungs, causing dangerous and long-term illness.
Dirty air is also the agent that causes high incidence of ear, eye and skin diseases.
