The giant squid nicknamed 'sea demon', 8m long and weighs about 450 kg, was captured in the sea of Ross Sea off the South Pole. It belongs to a rare and mysterious squid called Mesonychoteuthis hamiltoni which means giant squid.

The 'Sea Devil' is preserved at the New Zealand National Museum Te Papa Tongarewa in the capital Wellington. This is the largest adult squid ever bitten and also the best preserved squid ever.

Through initial research, scientists have measured the eye size of the squid is 27cm with the lens equivalent to an orange. One of the eyes remained intact.

Kat Bolstad, an expert in squid species research at Auckland University of Technology (New Zealand), said: 'This is the only intact eye of the giant squid that has ever been found and the largest eye in the dynamic world. object'.

Until now scientists have not known much about giant squid. They are believed to be able to dive as deep as 2,000 meters and are fierce predators.

Scientists are continuing to study more information about giant squid species such as how they live and hunt. Te Papa Tongarewa Museum is planning to display squid in public after completing the research process.
