Wikimedia UK - the organization that supports and develops Wikimedia Foundation projects like Wikipedia - says hundreds of articles about the town's life and history will be posted online in 26 languages.

About 1,000 barcodes and entrance tickets are being displayed at schools, museums, historical places, and even pubs.

A QR barcode point is mounted on the Shire hall in Moumouth town.

The project, nicknamed "Monmouthpedia" , has been in operation for 6 months, supported by bringing Wi-Fi wireless internet installed by local authorities.

Local people and entrepreneurs wrote and edited articles about Monmouth that visitors can access through barcodes. Volunteers are responsible for translating those articles into many different languages.

Since the project was introduced, more than 450 new articles on Monmouth have been added to the Wikipedia online encyclopedia and nearly 150 previous articles have been added and upgraded.

Stevie Benton, Wikimedia UK media officer, said Monmouth was chosen because it is rich in cultural traditions. Not only is the birthplace of King Henry V, this town also has a unique 13th-century bridge.

In addition, town articles highlight places, people, things, trees, and animals in the town. These are things that do not have much historical significance, but are also very attractive and interesting for visitors.

Wikipedia's founder Jimmy Wales says he wants other towns and cities to do the same to promote themselves more widely.
