The reason why winter makes us fat here!

The tragedy of winter is to make all of us gain weight in an uncontrollable way. And recently, science has shown an extremely unexpected cause, which has never been recorded in any study.

The cold winter makes the mood of people become very sad. But not only that, winter is also an opportunity for all of us to suddenly become fat, making tragedies even more numerous.

But why? Is it because we tend to eat more? Maybe, but according to a recent study published by the University of Alberta (Canada), the real reason behind it completely surprises us.

Winter makes many people gain weight without braking.

Specifically, experts have been working on adipocytes - also called fat-forming cells under the skin. They want to try to repair this cell, to make it produce more insulin for people with diabetes. But during the experiment, they observed a very strange phenomenon, which had never appeared in any previous research.

Previously, science knew that fat cell membranes could open or close according to the light waves it was exposed to. However, in the experiment, they found that this reaction became extremely strong with light waves of wavelengths between 450 and 480 nanometers. To make it easier to understand, this is a blue light wave - the light from the Sun.

"We realize this is a strange, unprecedented response, and understand that a deeper understanding is needed" - says Peter Light, an expert in the research team.

In fact, it is not uncommon for cells in the body to react to blue light. For example, in the eyeball, light-sensing cells give a very strong reaction, and it is a mechanism for the body to recognize time and readjust the biological clock.

And this time, they want to try to see how fat cells will react. As a result, they not only produce a protein similar to light-sensing cells, but also produce more than glycerol, and reduce the size of the fat storage area to 1/3.

"When blue light waves penetrate the skin and down to the fat cells below, lipid droplets shrink and get out of the cell."

"In other words, cells no longer store more fat."

So what does this mean? That is, sunlight not only helps the body synthesize vitamin D, but also makes it harder for the body to accumulate fat.

"This proves that later generations are more likely to be overweight than their fathers, because we tend to stay in the house more," Light said.

Return to the winter problem. In winter, the days are shorter, the sun is less, and we tend to stay more indoors. It all makes the body tend to have higher fat deposits than the summer.

We accumulate fat in the winter and then burn it in the summer.

However, Light said it was still a preliminary study. The phenomenon of fat shrinking under blue light is only proven in the laboratory environment. Meanwhile, many people worry that fat cells are too deep, the sun cannot reach, while the risk of skin cancer increases.

According to Light, some more research is needed in the future, in order to really confirm the view of the study is correct. And if successful, people will have new options to fight obesity - the "plague" is raging throughout the world.

The study is published in Scientific Reports.
