5 inventions came out of a dream

1. Periodic table

Dmitri Mendeleev wanted to arrange 65 known chemical elements in some way. He found there was a model to distinguish them and needed to do something about the weights of atoms. However, he remained unsuccessful until he dreamed of a strange dream.

" In the dream I saw a sign, where all the elements were placed on demand. When I woke up, I immediately wrote it on paper ," Mendeleev said.

The arrangement of elements that Mendeleev saw in the dream was very accurate. It even reveals that the measurements of some elements are inaccurate. More specifically, the periodic table also helps scientists predict new unknown elements based on atomic weight.

2. Atomic model

Bohr's atomic model describes the atom as a small nucleus with a positive charge and electrons moving around on different orbits. This is similar to the structure of the solar system, but gravity is replaced by electrostatic force.

" Niels Bohr said he developed an atomic model based on the dream of sitting on the Sun along with all the planets flying around it on a small rope," Edwina Portocarrero, Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), ever wrote.

3. Sewing machine

Elias Howe is often said to be the inventor of a sewing machine. In fact, he significantly improved previous designs and received US patents for sewing machines using lockstitch designs . Before succeeding, Howe spent a lot of time building an industrial sewing machine, but all went into dead ends. He finally finished his invention thanks to his dream.

Howe dreamed to build a sewing machine for a savage king in a foreign country. The king asked to complete it in 24 hours. Because he did not finish on time, he was taken to execution. During his execution, Howe noticed that the spear-wielding soldiers had holes in their heads. He immediately discovered how to solve the problem and woke up at 4 am.

Howe jumped out of bed and quickly ran to the workshop. He decided to abandon the principle of manual sewing (sewing thread holes located at the opposite end of the needle tip). Howe designed a curved needle, with a needle hole to thread the point at the tip, in combination with the bobbin to create a seam.

4. Speed of light

" Einstein said his entire career was a long-term reflection based on his dream in adolescence," Pastor John W. Price said in an interview with John H. Lienhard, professor of honor. Mechanical and historical engineering at the University of Houston.

In his dream, Einstein found himself riding on a downhill skiing very quickly. When Einstein and the car moved close to the speed of light , all colors mixed into one. Later, he spent most of his career thinking about what happened at the speed of light.

5. Molecular structure of benzene

Friedrich August Kekulé developed a theory of chemical structures related to the order of bonds of atoms in molecules. This is indispensable for the development of organic chemistry. He discovered the ring structure of benzene when sleeping on a bus.

" When I was sitting in a bus through the quiet streets, I sank into a dreamy state. The atoms jumped before my eyes and were always moving. I saw two small atoms joined together in pairs. the larger element is attached to two smaller atoms, while the larger atoms are joined together in chains, after which I spent nearly a night building a sketch based on a paper dream " , Kekulé said.
