The world's most environmentally friendly museum

The new museum of the California Institute of Science (in San Francisco, USA), scheduled to open this fall, appears to be bulging on the ground like a giant blue ice cream, but inside is a very structured Environmental friendliness.

The undulating hills underneath the roof cover trees up to 10,000 m ^2, making the building look harmonious with the green space of Golden Gate Park. They also help conserve energy, because the museum's isolation and ventilation roof is below.

This green roof is covered with 50,000 biodegradable trays, made of coconut shell. Each tray is designed with special layers to keep the tree from slipping down the slope. Designed by renowned Italian architect Renzo Piano, this $ 484 million building could become one of the largest public buildings in the United States.
