The world's most expensive artificial meat tastes great

Dr. Mark Post, Maastricht University, Netherlands, and colleagues created the world's most expensive hamburger for $ 325,000, after 1 year of research.

Hamburger meat is made using the stem cells of the bovine cow, with the technology to create parts. Stem cells have the ability to turn cell walls of organs, including muscle cells, needed to develop into hamburger meat.

To create 100 grams of hamburger, the team had to use tens of billions of muscle cells. Although this type of meat does not contain fat, Dr. Post claims 'it tastes very good'.

In the future, the cost of this 'in vitro' type of meat will be significantly reduced, however, there are still many difficulties to solve. And most importantly, how to convince society that the meat made in the laboratory is also very safe.

Dr. Post's team is just one of many groups working on in-vitro meat production. Many other research groups are also using the same technology to create 'in vitro' skin, a product that is more likely to receive social acceptance than 'in vitro' meat .
