Turkey: the 12th victim of Crimea-Congo fever

Crimea-Congo dengue fever has killed 12 people in Turkey since the beginning of the year. The latest victim is a hostess in Karabük (northern Turkey) killed in a hospital in the capital Ankara after several days.

In addition, there are 13 other patients being treated in this hospital. According to health sources, many others are being monitored in various health facilities.

On July 2, Minister of Health Recep Akdag spoke out to reassure people that the disease had not yet progressed into epidemics and that the government had thoroughly prevented the disease. The government also requires those who care for cattle to be especially wary of this disease.

Since appearing in Turkey in 2003, the disease has killed 44 people with most cases originating from the central provinces. The death rate of Crimea-Congo dengue in this country is 5%.
