Unique slowest express train in the world: Speed is slower than car but you have to queue for 6 months to buy a ticket!

Even though it is a ship

Even though it is a "high-speed" train, this train can only travel 290 km in 8 hours.

Unlike any other express train running through Europe, the Glacier Express travels at an average speed of only 36km/h and is known by many as the "world's slowest express train".

Connecting the Swiss mountain resorts of Zermatt and St. Moritz, the Glacier Express wasn't designed to get from point A to point B in the shortest possible time; it was built with another purpose in mind: to serve tourists.

The Glacier Express will feature large panoramic windows designed to provide expansive views, allowing passengers to fully immerse themselves in the beauty of the spectacular snow-capped Swiss Alps. However, the train's slow speed is not just for sightseeing purposes.

The design of the train allows passengers to fully immerse themselves in the beauty of the Alps.

Experts have revealed that the journey through the Alps requires the train to traverse some of the most difficult terrain in mainland Europe , with steep inclines and sharp turns. During the eight-hour journey, the world's slowest express train passes through numerous spiral tunnels and high viaducts. Statistics show that the train will have to pass through a total of 291 bridges and 91 tunnels – and climb to heights of more than 2,000 metres above sea level. As a result, the train must travel slowly to ensure the safety and comfort of passengers.

Despite the dangerous journey and long travel hours, getting a seat on the Glacier Express is not easy as passengers often have to queue up to book 3-6 months in advance. The booking time can be even longer if you want to sit in the Excellence, First and Second Class cars, which are spacious, comfortable and offer 5-star service.
