The commander of the US Coast Guard on February 18 received reports from southern Florida about a meteorite explosion in the sky at 7:30 pm. The American Meteorological Association, based in New York, also said it received 27 calls within two hours after the incident.
Amanda Mayer, a witnessed citizen, sent a video of a burning object in the sky around 7:30."I just said: Oh! That's weird," NBC quoted Mayer as saying. "I started filming and that was when it happened. I was sure it was a meteor because of similar incidents," she said.
According to Mike Hankey, of the American Meteorological Association, these fireballs are quite common."People rarely see it in life. But on any one night, it can happen anywhere on Earth, a few times a day," he said.
Discrete meteoric rain is often more harmless and popular than the meteorite explosion on February 15 near Chelyabinsk, Russia injured more than 1,000 people.
