Vietnam had the first international gold astronomy Olympic medal

During the International Olympiad in Astronomy and Astrophysics (IAO) which took place from November 3-11 in Beijing, China, 4 out of 5 Vietnamese contestants won medals.

In particular, Tran Xuan Tung (student of grade 12 Ly 1, Hanoi - Amsterdam specialized high school) won the gold medal.

Silver medal belongs to Ho Phi Dung (grade 11 Ly 1 student, Hanoi - Amsterdam specialized high school).

Le Tran Dao and Nguyen To Vinh Huy (students of grade 12 Ly 1, Hanoi - Amsterdam specialized high school) won the bronze medal.

With the above results, Vietnam ranked 10th in IAO. This is the third time our country has participated in this exam.

IAO is a test for high school students, organized to recognize the great role of astronomy and astrophysics in life, youth education and strengthening international exchanges.

IAO 2018 takes place in Beijing, China, with 214 contestants from 46 teams from 39 countries and regions participating.

This year's exam brings together delegations from countries with strengths in Astrophysics, Astronomy and Space such as America, Russia, England, China, Canada, Iran, Poland, India .

Participating students must go through 4 English tests including practice, theory, data processing and team test.

International Astronomy Olympiad (International: International Astronomy Olympiad, abbreviated: IAO) is an annual official international astronomy and science event for high school students between the ages of 14 and 18. , including intellectual competitions among these students. This is one of the International Science Olympics.
