Dr. Nguyen Van Kinh, Director of the National Institute of Infectious and Tropical Diseases said that these are the first two cases in Vietnam recorded as co-infections of two acute diseases (pandemic H1N1 flu and dengue fever - manifested a clear hemorrhage). After the treatment period, both of their health is now stable. In the world, there have been at least 7 cases of both diseases.

"Patients with two types of epidemics will be very susceptible to serious complications, high risk of death. Therefore, when people have fever manifestations, they should seek medical care immediately to detect the disease early," Dr. Kinh said.

According to him, since the end of October, the number of dengue patients tends to decrease markedly. Every day, there are between 50 and 60 people hospitalized, nearly halved compared to the beginning of October. However, there are many cases of severe complications.

So far, the dengue epidemic has spread to 28 provinces and cities with more than 80,000 cases (up more than 20% compared to the previous year) and there are nearly 100 deaths.

Meanwhile, the pandemic H1N1 flu has spread to 61 provinces and cities, with 39 deaths. Ho Chi Minh City is the province with the highest number of deaths: 7, followed by Dak Lak: 5 and Ben Tre: 4.

According to experts, the upcoming winter will make the H1N1 flu virus spread much more strongly. Besides, many experts worry about the time when H5N1 flu can re-export. Vietnam has appeared H5N1 avian influenza outbreak in Dien Bien.

Therefore, the Ministry of Health recommends that people in 5 high-risk groups (pregnant women, the elderly, young children, people with chronic diseases, people with influenza .) have signs of illness when coming to the facilities. Medical to be treated promptly.
