A Vietnamese scientist in Korea has just published a study published in the journal Science AAAs of the US, the world's leading scientific magazine.
Sogang University has two researchers whose work is published in Science magazine , in which Dr. Pham Cao Thanh Tung is the first Vietnamese to have a post in this magazine.
Science magazine of the American Association for Advanced Science (AAAS) - an organization founded in 1848, has the mission to "promote and protect the integrity of science and the use of science".
When posting to Science , the editorial staff must read and pass on to at least 2 experts to evaluate and criticize, suggest to the editorial board about the posting. The editorial board will re-read the last time and make a final decision about whether to post or not. This process is relatively strict, and the rate of articles rejected by magazines like Science is very high, sometimes up to 95% or more.
That's why a scientific study in Science has a great value and influence.
'Published in Science magazine is a researcher's dream, so I am very happy and proud to have the research published. That is not my own result, but the efforts of the whole teachers and students over the past 3 years , 'said Dr. Pham Cao Thanh Tung, 34 years old.

Dr. Tung said, his research on Zeolite and its application in the field of new materials. Natural zeolite in nature is a mineral form consisting of silicon oxide and aluminum oxide. In industry, zeolite is synthesized and applied for a long time as a catalyst in the petroleum industry, as an adsorbent, as an additive in detergents.
His research direction is to manufacture zeolite thin films, and applications to separate the elements in the gas mixture or mixes of components of different molecular sizes.
This research direction has been around for 20 - 30 years, but there are still limitations in the manufacturing process. This time, Tung group researched and made films by new method, successfully synthesized this membrane, with many outstanding advantages over the old method.
'When testing the application to separate the two xylene isomers, the first material of the plastics industry, the result is very high separation,' Tung said.
'In the study published in Science this time, in addition to the results of the application to separate two Xylene isomers, this zeolite thin film is also investigated as an optical material, called optical material. Non-linear learning. The test also produced 10 times higher results than the results published , "Tung added.
Dr. Tung is still working on improved research based on this material and has obtained very good new results. He wants to have more research applications based on this material next time.
Pham Cao Thanh Tung graduated from Ho Chi Minh City University of Natural Sciences in 1999, completed his master's degree in 2002. He worked at the Institute of Chemical Technology, Vietnam Academy of Science in Ho Chi Minh City 2000 - 2006. From August / 2006, he was a graduate student at Sogang University, Seoul, South Korea and a doctoral degree 8/2011. From September this year he is doing postdoctoral research at this school.
Professor Nguyen Lan Dung said, Science is a large and reputable magazine with the number of readers up to millions, many people use this magazine as an official source and lead them in research topics. .
"People often rely on the Impact factor to assess the impact of a scientific journal. And this index of Science magazine is always very high," Professor Dung said.
