Vietnamese women are world-renowned in the field of environment
Goldman Environmental Foundation on April 23 announced seven Goldman environmental award recipients - the world's largest award for grassroots environmental activists.
For the first time, a Vietnamese person was honored by the world environmental organization for his contributions in this field.
Goldman Environmental Foundation on April 23 announced seven Goldman environmental award recipients - the world's largest award for grassroots environmental activists. For the first time, Vietnamese people are on this list.
That is Ms. Wei Thi Khanh (41 years old), Director of Green Development Center (GreenID). She used scientific research to promote state agencies to participate in sustainable long-term energy projects, reducing the dependence on coal resources in Vietnam. Her efforts helped remove 115 million tons of carbon dioxide emissions from Vietnam each year.

Wei Thị Khanh was planning to become a diplomat, but she was passionate about the environment. Therefore, after graduating from university, she started working on water resource conservation and community development for a small Vietnamese non-profit organization.
In 2011, Ms. Khanh established the Green Innovation Development Center to promote sustainable energy development in Vietnam, better manage water, air and green development resources. She is also a founding member of Vietnam Sustainable Energy Alliance, a network of 11 Vietnamese and international organizations operating in the field of environment.
She focused on working with experts and policy makers on renewable energy and energy efficiency to reduce dependence on fossil fuels and coal power.
