VN will launch Vinasat satellite in the second quarter of 2008

In the second quarter of 2008, when the project launched the Vietnam telecommunications satellite (Vinasat) successfully, in Vietnam, it will no longer limit the provision of telecommunications, radio and communication services.

Vinasat has modern technology and has a maximum durability of 22 years. Vinasat will be leased out to foreign countries.

People in Muong La and Son La districts will catch waves watching Vietnamese television from Vinasat satellite instead of using Chinese 'pan' as today.

In the second quarter of 2008, when the project launched the Vietnam telecommunications satellite (Vinasat) successfully, in Vietnam, it will no longer limit the provision of telecommunications, radio and television services and other transmission services'. - Mr. Hoang Minh Thong, Director of Vinasat Project Management Board - Vietnam Post and Telecommunication Group (VNPT), said so.

Will be in the air on time

Vinasat satellite has a capacity of 20 sets of transponders on C and Ku band, weighing about 2,600 kg at the time of launch, applied the most modern technology, up to the present time and has a life span of 15-22 year. Vinasat's coverage area for C band is Japan, East China, Korea, India, ASEAN region and Australia; Ku band has Indochina, East Sea and surrounding areas, part Myanmar. Total investment for the project is approximately 230 million USD. When Vinasat operates, it will be able to provide a wide range of broadband services to all parts of the territory and Vietnamese territorial waters, where currently other modes of transmission have not been reached.

Mr. Thong also affirmed that the progress of the project is currently being implemented smoothly, the time for satellite launch is almost certain. The requirement for time to complete this project is very strict, because according to international practice, the time to use orbit of 1,320 East to 2008 must be used. "Therefore, at any cost, launch the satellite as planned" - Mr. Thong said.

A range of high-tech services are provided

The launch of Vinasat satellite has important implications, contributing to complete the national information infrastructure and improving the safety of telecommunication networks. At the same time, promoting and developing telecommunications and information technology services bring many socio-economic benefits. Accordingly, a wide range of services provided by Vinasat satellites such as satellite capacity lease on a full-set basis, or odd capacity; providing package services such as: VSAT, voice, television, radio in remote areas, data transmission, Internet, videoconferencing, distance learning, remote health care . At the same time , the launch of satellites also affirmed Vietnam's sovereignty over orbit.

In theory, all services provided on mobile and fixed networks can be deployed via satellite. However, the bandwidth provided via satellite will be much smaller than fiber optic cable. Therefore, some services with a large number of subscribers will not be used via satellite. This satellite will mainly provide subscribers whose ground services cannot reach. Another noteworthy point is that, as expected, Vietnamese mobile phone networks will have very few opportunities to use the 'borderless' efficiency (global coverage) of satellite because of its very high cost. high. According to Mr. Thong, even foreign mobile network providers that have successfully tested must give up just because of the cost factor. And in fact, VNPT has considered this before deciding to invest in GSM network (MobiFone and VinaPhone).

Make the most of Vinasat's functions

Mr. Thong said that VNPT is now hiring Thai satellites to provide Vsat IP Star services to meet current telecommunications services. By 2008, when launching Vinasat satellite, Vsat IP Star service would switch to using 'homegrown' to effectively exploit and stop Thailand's satellite lease. However, VNPT currently has no specific business plan for Vinasat satellite. The effective exploitation of Vinasat, VNPT is collecting the needs of other industries (security, military, businesses .), then will calculate the domestic usage flow to consider for countries. In the rented area, avoid using wasteful satellites.

The IP (network communication protocol) of the telecommunication system is developing at a fast pace, so the demand of exploiting the power of satellites will increase sharply in the future. VNPT believes that the opportunity for effective launch of Vinasat satellite is available, but the challenge is not small when competing with other suppliers. VNPT will then have to calculate factors such as technology, cost .

Vinasat will be launched from Guyana (French)

The project of launching Vietnam telecommunication satellites (Vinasat) approved by the Prime Minister on October 18, 2005, with the goal of: Launching a satellite into the position of the Eastern 1,320 orbit registered on geostationary orbit;built in VN 2 satellite control stations.VNPT is assigned to act as an investor and implement the project under the direction of the National Steering Committee of Vinasat project.Vinasat will be launched from a launch pad in Guyana (French) on orbit by Ariane 5 rocket of Arianespace (a commercial division of the European Space Agency).

The most important and valuable package 3 is 'providing satellite, launch service, satellite control station equipment' which has been implemented by international bidding.US Lockheed Martin Commercial Space Systems Group officially won the bid in May 5-2006.
