Rainwater bag for Truong Sa island district by the Institute of Tropical Technology and Research Environment has undergone a trial period, achieving good results.

After one year of testing in the harsh weather in Truong Sa island district (Khanh Hoa), water bags made from synthetic materials, with a capacity of 10m 3 , were prepared by the Institute of Tropical Technology and Environment (VITTEP). create durability, can catch rain water.

Lightweight, durable, cheap

Dr. Phung Chi Sy, Chairman of the above research project (with engineer Pham Ngoc Linh), said that this type of bag is made from synthetic materials from rubber, plastic, reinforced with fiber material, so it is difficult to be Stretch, sprung, durable, firm. Accompanying this bag is a rainwater trap, which can keep rainwater flowing into the bag. Large bags can hold 10m 3 of water.

Testing the water quality in the bag showed that after 6 months, the water still reached TCVN 5502: 2003 (guaranteed standards for domestic water). Bag of size (4.5 x 4.5 x 1.1) m, with water valve attached.

According to the research team, the reserves of fresh water supply for coastal localities are usually reinforced concrete tanks, composite tanks, stainless steel tanks . often with high cost, bulky and difficult to install. set for many island areas, especially rig houses, very limited.

Some types of reinforced concrete tanks, water are easily absorbed due to cracking, corrosion of materials. The advantage of this type of bag is its relatively cheap price (calculated according to capacity, average 700,000 VND / m 3 ), compact, light compared to all other materials.

While this soft water bag has durability, the team still plans to prevent the problem. This method is quite simple. People, soldiers can easily sew, paste, repair when the bag is scratched, damaged by special glue and patch.

No worries about "removing drawers"

Not only sent to Truong Sa and some army units, during the trial, this water bag was also given to nearly 10 households in the Mekong Delta for trial. Feedback from people and soldiers after a year of use is a very good product.

The trend of using soft and light polymer soft bags has been applied in many parts of the world. America, Russia, France and Japan have been making and using this bag for many years for many military, civil and economic fields . 'In Vietnam, this is the first time to make water bags for Navy, people ', engineer Pham Ngoc Linh said.

According to engineer Nguyen Tuan Thanh, Department of Science Management, Ho Chi Minh City Department of Science and Technology, the need to use water bags in islands, mountainous and coastal areas is very high. In particular, at a time when the whole world is concerned about climate change, fresh water issues, preserving fresh water becomes especially important.

Therefore, the results of this study can be implemented for the areas severely affected by climate change, helping people actively respond to climate change such as people in the Mekong Delta provinces. .
