Why is dead cockroach lying back?

Coby Schal, professor of entomology at the University of North Carolina, had an explanation of this phenomenon.

When the cockroach is old and dies, the focus will pull its back to the floor and make it turn over.

Professor Coby Schal thinks there are two basic reasons.First , cockroaches have slightly rounded, smooth backs and flattened bodies that help them shrink, hiding in narrow slots and crevices. Secondly , cockroaches have a large body weight thanks to six long legs, so most of their weight is concentrated around their backs. When the cockroach is old and dies, the focus will pull its back to the floor and make it turn over. The smooth back and weakening muscles make it impossible to turn over, especially when it is on a slippery surface.

According to Newsobserver, the pesticides we use to kill cockroaches can have the same effect. Most pesticides contain neurotoxins - toxins can cause concussions and muscle spasms, eventually causing cockroaches to lie on their backs. A healthy cockroach can easily be turned back, but with cockroaches that are poisonous, it is impossible because the muscles are weak, plus a smooth back and large body weight.

Cockroaches are always enemies for us, especially in the kitchen. A female cockroach can give birth to 40-60 animals in each birth. They do not need males to reproduce. Moreover, cockroaches can live for 2 years under ideal living conditions. The life of cockroaches also depends on food and habitat.
