Will there be artificial spider silk like Spiderman's?

Will silk help you swing back and forth from building to building?

Artificial spider like Spiderman's

Spider silk is a form of 'super' in nature that is five times more durable than steel and is more resilient than rubber, which shows its great potential in many practical applications such as fabricating anti-jackets. bullets, biodegradable water bottles, bridge cables . In recent years, material scientists have been trying to find ways to help people reach the undeniable benefits of spider silk.

However, there has been no significant success. After 5 years of research, a Bolt -start-up spoke about their achievements. Does Bolt Threads really have the ability to bring spider silk closer to consumers?

Managing director Dan Widmaier said: " Basically, our mission was to build enough spider silk from the beginning to meet consumers' needs. Our company has kept quiet long enough. focus on work and solve problems, and now we are ready to receive success ".

Create "spider silk" without Spider

Widmaier shared that this achievement is not really new in today's world of biotechnology . From a microorganism, genetic engineering researchers can produce tons of spider silk proteins through fungal fermentation.

They then used a proprietary mechanical system to 'squeeze' wet protein silk solution through small spray holes, creating super-thin 'filaments'. The next step is that these fibers are released into another chemical to 'turn' into artificial spider silk made of 100% silk protein.

Widmaier said that the process of sputtering silk "mimics" exactly the spitting behavior of spiders . Compared to what Bolt Threads has done, simulating and reproducing this natural spinning process in making spider silk is a major cause of many difficulties for predecessors in the same field.

Faster, cheaper, but better

Widmaier thought he was lucky because Bolt Threads came into being when barriers in biotechnology were gradually lowered."Compared to the past decade, today's tools are better, cheaper and faster. We are constantly updating new technologies and I believe I am on the right track."

Bolt Threads is expected to launch the first deal next year and is expected to launch affordable products. Widmaier is ambitious that this new kind of groundbreaking material can appear on human objects used daily and directly benefit like an iPad panel or a car seat cover. Probably on a beautiful day, will your iPad support water for the device? Or will the new jacket bought will be bulletproof?
