At recent meetings with the Ministry of Information and Communications, telecom firms simultaneously proposed to apply for 3G licenses even if they knew that they would have to pass the examination.

'Hot' conversation 3G

At the end of 2008, the approval of the entrance exam will determine which telecommunications businesses have 3G tickets to step into the broadband wireless road. At this point, although the entrance exam will be carried out, it does not fall, but it is enough to "hot" the story to the 3G network of mobile networks. Foreign experts also said that 2008 will be the focus of 3G in Vietnam and this is the ripe time for Vietnam to move to 3G.

Until this time, the demand for 3G services in Vietnam is not much, but the operators want to prepare for the future. At the recent working sessions with the Ministry of Information and Communications (MIC), the telecom operators all simultaneously proposed to obtain the 3G Licensing Department even if they knew that they would have to pass the examination.

Mr. Pham Long Tran, the Chairman of VNPT's Board of Directors, requested the Ministry of Information and Communications to soon grant 3G frequency licenses so that the Group has a basis to implement and meet customers' needs and technology development trends. ' In fact, to deploy new technology, it takes 2 years from the time of the investment project to implementation. Therefore, the Ministry should soon license new technologies for VNPT to plan for preparation , 'said Pham Long Tran.

As suggested by VNPT, at the meeting with the leaders of the Ministry of Information and Communications, Mr. Hoang Anh Xuan, Viettel's General Director made a proposal to get the 3G license granted soon by the operator to meet the trend. development in the future.

The EVN Telecom side mentioned the band's suffering to be prioritized in 3G licensing. Mr. Nguyen Manh Bang, Director of EVN Telecom, said that because of EVN Telecom's 450 MHz frequency, it is very narrow, so it is limited in customer development. Meanwhile, this band is being heavily interfered, thus affecting the quality of service provided to customers. Therefore, Mr. Nguyen Manh Bang said that 3G is a "gateway" for EVN Telecom to step into the mobile market and solve the current difficulties of the 450 MHz network. Therefore, Mr. Bang also proposed to give priority to the 3G band to solve the bandwidth problem for EVN Telecom.

Mr. Pham Ngoc Lang, Chairman of Hanoi Telecom's Board of Directors, said that until now, HT Mobile network has covered in 64 provinces and cities, but the coverage is not deep and evenly spread across the provinces. Currently HT Mobile network has started to provide some 3G services in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City. Ho Chi Minh City with CDMA 2000 1x EVDO coverage. Mr. Pham Ngoc Lang made a proposal to grant 3G band license to Hanoi Telecom to ensure the future development band. Do not suffer the scene of "buffalo slowly drinking muddy water", the SPT said it would mention the issue of applying for 3G license in the next meeting with the Ministry of Information and Communications.

At the request of telecommunications enterprises, Deputy Minister of Information and Communications Le Nam Thang said that the Government has agreed to allow the Ministry of Information and Communications to grant 3G licenses through the form of recruitment examination. Therefore, businesses need to be ready for this examination and this is the only form of obtaining a 3G license.

Do not worry about the number of 3G licenses

According to the analysis of experts, Vietnam's mobile market will return to the 'cauldron' in the next few years. Thus, after a fierce race, Vietnam mobile market will return to 3 operators. Mr. Nguyen Manh Hung, Deputy General Director of Viettel, said that the mobile information market in the regional countries has also returned to number 3 such as Thailand, Malaysia, China, Korea . Mr. Nguyen Manh Hung affirmed , in the field of mobile information forming the theory of number 3. This number is sufficient to compete as well as for businesses to have enough customers to grow. Thus, up to 4 3G licenses will be issued for telecom operators to develop their broadband networks.

The problem here is how the MIC will conduct a recruitment test to choose the right operator who has the capacity to deploy and compete in the mobile market. Analysts said that in the race to obtain 3G licenses, three GSM networks, Viettel Mobile, MobiFone and Vinaphone, have more advantages than the three CDMA networks S-Fone, EVN Telecom and HT Mobile.
